Questions.
Answered properly.
Current answers about what SMRC does, what it costs, what can be downloaded and what remains under validation.
Product and readiness
Can I run live payroll with SMRC today?
No. The current desktop solution is a working prototype that still requires official calculation validation, document review, security hardening, signed distribution and HMRC recognition.
Does SMRC submit HMRC fraud-prevention data?
“Yes” is now recorded as SMRC’s mandatory design requirement for applicable API requests. The complete desktop-direct header register is published on the HMRC Fraud Prevention Data page. The supplied desktop code has not yet completed transmission or passed HMRC Test API validation, so live filing remains locked.
Is SMRC recognised by HMRC?
Not yet. HMRC onboarding work has started, but a Vendor ID, developer-test credentials, complete schema validation, fraud-header evidence, recognition scenarios and formal recognition remain outstanding.
What already works?
Local employer and employee records, payroll-run foundations, finalised history, payslip packs, reports, audit records, backups, agent/CIS areas and the website accounting workspace all have implemented code. See Product Status for detail.
Why are some features marked draft or locked?
Because a screen or local export is not the same as an officially validated calculation, statutory form or accepted external submission.
Buying and downloading
Can I buy a licence online now?
Not yet. The direct purchase page is ready, but payment remains disabled until a hosted checkout, authenticated activation-email service and production-compatible licence signer are connected and tested. There is no sales-enquiry step.
Where is the installer?
The final customer installer has not yet been supplied and approved. The Downloads page will expose a real file only after it is signed, versioned and checked.
Are the current prices final?
No. Current figures are explicitly marked illustrative and must be confirmed by the owner before commercial launch.
Will old payroll data transfer?
Import/export foundations exist, but a production migration route must be tested for the exact source format and tax-year data before customer use.
Data and support
Where is payroll data stored?
The desktop application is local-first and stores structured records in SQLite. The customer controls the device, folder, backups and any deliberate exports or support sharing.
How do I contact SMRC?
Email admin@smrc-pay.com directly. The address is displayed at the top of every website page; no contact form or phone call is required.
How are account requests handled?
The current account-assistance route uses manual verification and retains only the final four licence-code characters. Self-service account management has not yet been connected.
Where can I check system compatibility?
See the System Requirements page for Windows, storage, backup and internet-service details.
